BSCI - Business Social Compliance Initiative
The Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) is an initiative to support retailers, importers and brands to improve working conditions in factories and farms worldwide. Their vision is a world of free trade and sustainable global supply chains, where factories and farms are compatible with both the national labour and ILO Convention to protect the rights of workers.
Many of these suppliers are located in countries where national laws are inadequate or poorly enforced to protect workers. To address this, many companies and organizations established individual codes of conduct and control systems. The proliferation of individual codes, various audit procedures and different implementation approaches have led to confusion and unnecessary duplication of efforts and costs for retailers, importers and manufacturers.
BSCI tackles this challenge by offering a common Code of Conduct and a delivery system that allows companies to jointly respond to the complex employment matters within their supply chain. To simplify the implementation of the code of conduct, they develop - with the involvement of participating companies and stakeholders - a broad range of tools and activities to monitor, train and share information to improve working conditions in the supply chain of the participating organizations.
As an accredited/qualified independent party b2bSustainable has engaged for many years as an agent/partner to implement these BSCI audits worldwide.
